We love raising Nigerian Dwarf goats! We have a small herd we use for milking - enjoyed by our family and also to make our wonderful goats milk soap.
We have a mixed herd of non-registered (NR) and registered (R) Nigerian Dwarf goats. We also plan to have Miniature Zebu babies coming in 2024! Also coming in 2024 are pure (unregistered) Kune Kune piglets!

Why did we choose Nigerian Dwarf goats and Miniature Zebu cows for our livestock of choice? I (Maud) have a beef protein allergy and could never have A1 cows milk (or beef). So in 1985, my parents started an urban homestead farm in Wilmington, NC on 2 acres with goats for milking so I could have milk I didn’t react to. Side note: it was THE BEST childhood and I look back on it fondly. The cool thing about goats AND the zebu cow is that they are A2 milk producers (!). I will say that our ND goats milk is one of the best goats milk I’ve ever had and we’ve had around 6 different dairy goat breeds over the past 30+ years and ND goats are who we have loved the most.

In order to be considered as a home for our animals, you will be asked a few questions before being picked as the family that will love and care for an animal from Greenlands Farm.
If you can not answer yes to all of these questions, you will most likely not be selected as a home for our babies. Why do we care? Because we are good stewards of our animals and the welfare of each animal here is our greatest concern.

Interview questions:

  1. Do you have experience with raising goats or are you knowledgeable as a first time owner?

  2. Do you have at least a minimum of 200 square feet of pasture per goat?

  3. Do you have a shelter (roof and at least 3 sides) with a minimum of 10 square feet per goat?

  4. Do you have a companion goat(s) of similar age?

  5. Do you have a large animal vet or plan to have one by pick up time?

All babies will be ready for pickup by 4 weeks and trained on a bottle. You will need to bottle feed until 12 weeks (depending on the personality of the goat). Babies come with the bottle they’ve been trained on.
